Basic Toe Fungus Remedies

Toenail fungus is a common problems. Symptoms of this condition may include inflammation, swelling, thickening, or yellowing of the nail. It may not be painful, but can cause problems if left untreated. The good news i that there are a variety of toe fungus remedies that can cure the infection in a month or two.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Vinegar has a mild acidity and can prevent the fungus from spreading while killing it at the same time. To use this method, mix equal parts of the vinegar and water. Soak the affected toe or the entire foot in this solution for half an hour on a daily basis. After removing, be sure to dry the foot thoroughly. When used daily for a few weeks, the area will start to clear up and eventually the fungus will go away.

Tea Tree Oil

This oil works as a natural antiseptic and also has antifungal properties. It has been used to treat many types of skin infections, and is a great remedy. Because of it’s strong nature, mix a few drops with a teaspoon of either olive or coconut oil. Use a cotton ball to apply the solution to the affected area. After leaving on for 10 minutes, use a toothbrush to gently scrub the affected area. Repeat this remedy two times a day until satisfied with the results.

Oil of Oregano

Similar to tea tree oil, oil or oregano has antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal properties. It also works as a natural analgesic so it’s a great remedy to use in toe fungus that may be particularly painful. Mix two drops of the oil with one teaspoon of olive oil. Apply the mixture onto the affected area and leave on for at least half an hour, although longer is fine as well. Rinse off with warm water and dry the foot thoroughly. This remedy can be repeated once every day for three weeks to heal the area.

Garlic

Garlic is a natural remedy that contains compounds such as allicin and ajoene which function as antifungal solutions. The oil of garlic is most beneficial and the oil can be purchased or prepared using a garlic press. Use a clove at a time or more if the affected area is large. Mix the oil with an equal amount of white vinegar. Apply the mixture to the area and slightly surrounding the infection and cover with a bandage. Leave the bandage on for a few hours before removing. Repeat these steps daily until the infection clears. This remedy may also be complemented by eating foods that contain garlic.

These simple remedies are easy to use and very effective when used as directed. Because toe fungus can be dangerous if left unattended, the best solution is to recognize and treat it quickly. These remedies are safe to use on a regular basis and most of them require ingredients that are already at home. In addition to using one of these recommendations, be sure to keep the foot dry and away from any further sources of fungus or bacteria.
